What is Radiesse?
Radiesse® is a dermal filler that is used to treat wrinkles, fine lines, and facial folds. It is made up of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres, which are suspended in a gel-like substance. CaHA is a naturally occurring substance found in our bones, so it is considered safe for use in the body.
When injected into the skin, Radiesse® provides immediate volume and lift to the treatment area. Radiesse® is typically used to treat smile lines (nasolabial folds), marionette lines (the lines that run from the corners of the mouth to the chin), and to add volume to the cheeks and temples. The results of Radiesse® injections can last for up to a year or more, depending on the individual and the treatment area.
The length of the Radiesse® procedure can vary depending on the number of areas being treated and the amount of filler being injected. However, most treatments typically take around 30 minutes to complete.
The recovery time after the injection is generally minimal, and most patients can return to their normal activities immediately after the procedure. However, some patients may experience mild swelling or redness.
The injection can provide an immediate plumping effect, adding volume and smoothing out wrinkles and fine lines in the treatment area. Over time, the CaHA microspheres in the filler stimulate the body's natural collagen production.
Benefits of Radiesse
Who Qualifies for Radiesse®?
Radiesse® is recommended for adults who are 18 years of age or older and in good overall health. It is most effective for patients who have mild to moderate wrinkles, fine lines, and facial folds, and who have good skin quality overall. The treatment area is typically around the mouth, nose, and chin, as well as to add volume to the cheeks or other areas of the face. Patients should have specific concerns in these areas that can be addressed with the filler. It is important for patients to have realistic expectations for the outcome of the treatment and understand that the results are not permanent.
What to Expect?
Before undergoing Radiesse® treatment, patients should expect to have a consultation with a qualified healthcare provider to discuss their individual needs and goals. During this consultation, the healthcare provider will evaluate the patient’s skin quality, the specific concerns they have, and the treatment area to determine whether Radiesse® is the best option for them.
Patients should also avoid taking aspirin or other blood-thinning medications for at least one week prior to the procedure, as these can increase the risk of bleeding and bruising in the treatment area.
