What is Facelift?

Facelift is a cosmetic surgery procedure that is designed to improve the appearance of the face and neck by tightening the skin, removing excess fat, and repositioning underlying tissues. It is also known as rhytidectomy.

During the procedure, the surgeon makes incisions in the skin around the ears, and then lifts and repositions the underlying tissues, removing any excess skin and fat. This can result in a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance, with smoother, tighter skin and a more defined jawline.

The length of a facelift procedure can vary depending on the specific technique used, the extent of the procedure, and the individual patient's anatomy. However, on average, a facelift procedure typically takes around 2 to 4 hours to complete.

Most patients are able to return to work and resume light activities within 1 to 2 weeks after the surgery, although more strenuous activities should be avoided for several weeks.

Facelift surgery is typically performed using general anesthesia, which means that the patient is completely unconscious during the procedure. This ensures that the patient is comfortable and pain-free throughout the surgery.

Who Qualifies for Facelift?

To qualify for a facelift, an individual should be a non-smoker or willing to quit smoking for a period of time before and after the surgery, as smoking can impair healing and increase the risk of complications. They should also be in good overall physical health, with no underlying medical conditions that could increase the risk of complications during or after surgery. Good skin elasticity is also important to ensure optimal results and a smoother recovery. The decision to undergo a facelift should be made in consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon who can assess the individual’s needs, goals, and overall health status, and determine whether a facelift is an appropriate and safe option for them.
