What is Kybella?
Kybella® is the only injection available that can help you get rid of your ‘double chin.’ Until recently, liposuction in the face and neck was the only way to get rid of the excess skin and fat underneath our chin, which is very difficult to eliminate through exercise. Many people experience this fullness in their chin due to weight, age, or even genetics. This excess skin and fat near the chin can add years to the face and make you appear heavier than you actually are.
Kybella® is made from deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule the body uses to help break down and absorb fat. The injection works by slowly dissolving fat cells, which the body then safely reabsorbs. The result is a smoother and more contoured chin. The fat cells destroyed by the injection are permanently eliminated and do not return. After you finish a series of Kybella® treatments, you will not need follow-up treatments to maintain results.
Procedure
The length of the procedure varies depending on the number of injections required and the size of the treatment area. In general, each injection session typically takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Patients may require multiple sessions to achieve the desired results.
Recovery
The recovery period after the treatment is typically minimal, with many patients returning to their normal activities immediately after the procedure. However, some patients may experience mild swelling and bruising.
Results
The results of Kybella® treatment can vary depending on the individual patient and the amount of submental fat present. However, most patients report a noticeable improvement in the appearance of their double chin after undergoing the treatment.

Who Qualifies for Kybella®?
To qualify for the treatment, a patient must have excess submental fat that is causing a double chin. A qualified healthcare provider will evaluate each patient individually to determine if they are a good candidate for the treatment. Some factors that may be considered include the patient’s overall health, medical history, and the amount of submental fat present.
Kybella® may not be suitable for patients who have excess skin or sagging in the chin and neck area, as it is designed to target submental fat. Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding should also avoid Kybella® treatment.
What to Expect?
Prior to receiving the treatment, patients will have a consultation with a healthcare provider to evaluate their candidacy for Kybella®. Patients must avoid alcohol, anti-inflammatory medications, and blood-thinning medications for several days before the treatment.
It’s important to consult with a qualified healthcare provider to determine if Kybella® is a suitable treatment option for you. They can evaluate your individual needs and goals, discuss the potential risks and benefits of treatment, and help you make an informed decision about your care.
