What is Fat Grafting?
Fat grafting, also known as fat transfer or fat injection, is a cosmetic surgery procedure that involves removing fat from one part of the body, typically from areas such as the thighs, buttocks, or abdomen, and then transferring it to another area that may lack volume or definition, such as the face, breasts, or buttocks.
Fat grafting is a highly customizable procedure that can target any body part to enhance shape and alter body contours. Those who have a leaner build may not be eligible for this procedure. If you do not have enough body fat for fat grafting, we can offer alternative techniques for body contouring. Dr. Rogers will be happy to discuss the options for implants or fillers. You may also consider off-the-shelf treatments such as Sculptra or Renuva.
Procedure
The length of a fat grafting procedure can vary depending on the extent of the surgery and the areas being treated. However, on average, the procedure can take anywhere from 1-3 hours.
Recovery
The initial recovery period typically lasts around 1-2 weeks. During this time, patients are advised to rest and avoid strenuous activities. The swelling and bruising will gradually subside over this period.
Anesthesia
Fat grafting is typically performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation, depending on the extent of the procedure and the patient's individual needs and preferences.

Who Qualifies for Fat Grafting?
Fat grafting is generally suitable for people who are in good health and have specific concerns related to volume loss or contour irregularities in certain areas of the body. Ideal candidates for fat grafting typically have sufficient fat deposits in other areas of the body that can be used as donor sites.
Some specific examples of individuals who may be good candidates for fat grafting include those who want to enhance the size or shape of their buttocks or breasts, individuals with facial volume loss, people with scarring or contour irregularities, and patients who have undergone previous cosmetic procedures.
