What is Hair Grafting?
Hair grafting, also known as hair transplantation, is a surgical procedure that involves moving hair follicles from one part of the body (usually the back or sides of the head) to another part of the body where hair is thinning or balding (usually the top or front of the head).
Hair grafting can be performed using one of two main techniques. The first technique, known as strip harvesting or strip excision, involves removing a strip of skin from the donor site and then extracting hair grafts from it. This approach can harvest a large number of grafts at once and is typically less time-consuming than the second option, which is follicular unit extraction (FUE). FUE involves extracting individual hair follicles from the donor site, which can be more time-consuming but may have advantages in certain cases.
Procedure
The duration of a hair grafting procedure can vary depending on the number of grafts needed and the complexity of the case. Generally, the procedure can take anywhere from 4 to 8 hours, although it may take longer for more extensive cases.
Recovery
The recovery time after a hair grafting procedure can vary depending on the individual and the extent of the procedure. In general, most patients can expect to return to work and resume normal activities within a few days to a week after the procedure.
Anesthesia
Hair grafting is typically performed using local anesthesia. This type of anesthesia is injected directly into the scalp and numbs the area, allowing the patient to remain awake and alert during the procedure while avoiding any pain or discomfort.

Who Qualifies for Hair Grafting?
Hair grafting is generally recommended for individuals who have experienced hair loss or thinning and are looking for a long-term solution. However, not everyone may qualify for the procedure. Ideal candidates for the procedure typically have sufficient hair on the back and sides of their scalp, which serve as donor areas for the grafts. Additionally, they should be in good overall health and not have any medical conditions that could increase the risk of complications.
The procedure may not be recommended for individuals with certain medical conditions or those taking certain medications, as these factors can affect the success of the procedure. A consultation with a qualified hair transplant surgeon can help determine if hair grafting is a suitable option for a particular individual based on their unique needs and medical history.
